Summary
Sports4Life was a 12-month (12+6month extension) project that aimed at training young workers in the field of grassroots sports. The goal was to aid at instilling health consciousness and sports values from an early age, using these young people who work with children and sports as catalysts.
During one year and a half, the project’s partners developed a "Non-Formal Toolkit for Grassroots", through a highly qualified training week for young people working with children in sports. The training's main objective was to develop a set of skills and competences that are fundamental for working with sports and youth. The training took place in Terceira Island (Azores - Portugal), where 25 young coaches and sports workers gathered for a week-long intensive course, based on non-formal education and grassroots sports and guided by specialized trainers from both professional sports and non-formal education.
To implement the project, the project’s partners coming from Portugal, Lithuania, Bulgaria and Greece worked together with a Portuguese sports club from Terceira Island - Associação de Jovens da Fonte Bastardo (AJFB) - to create a useful toolkit for young people to apply non-formal activities in grassroots sports.
